FAQ

Where do you offer your services?

I provide private midwifery care for women from Penrith/West Sydney to Bathurst in the Central Tablelands. I travel up to 90 minute radius from my home.

Who do you work with?

All private midwives work in collaboration with each other as well as other medical and allied health care professionals. At homebirths, there are two midwives in attendance. When you choose to book, I would liaise with other private and/or registered midwives in your area to choose a second midwife who you would have the opportunity to meet antenatally. I work closely with Dr Melanie Jackson and we support each other in our homebirth services.

I have risk factors – can I have a private midwife?

Yes! I take on clients who want to have private midwifery continuity of care – not just homebirths, however to give you the best quality care this may involve working with doctors and others healthcare workers, and the hospital may be the safest place for you to birth depending on your medical condition. I attend hospital with clients whether the birth is a planned hospital birth or an unexpected transfer – in the hospital I stay with you to support and advocate for your wishes. I do not have practicing rights in a NSW public hospital so you would therefore be allocated a hospital midwife to care for you as well. Contact me if you would like to discuss if private midwifery care will work for you.

How much does it cost?

I charge $6000 for a full package of care – this covers all your antenatal care, intrapartum care, a second midwife for your birth and your postnatal care. This also includes the hire of a birth pool with a liner and access to a library of resources to borrow throughout your pregnancy.
If you get a referral from a GP for my services, you are eligible for Medicare rebates for antenatal and postnatal care (note: there are no rebates for birth (intrapartum) care). On average, most clients receive $1500 back from Medicare.

Where can I get further information about homebirth?

Check out Homebirth Australia and Homebirth NSW webpages – these have excellent resources about the evidence around homebirth.

Can I talk to you more to have further questions answered?
